Course Content

Why is it that people from black and minority ethnic (BME) communities are over-represented among users of statutory mental health services, yet under represented among users of services provided by voluntary organisations?

What particular issues affect people from BME communities in relation to mental health and mental health services? How can voluntary organisations meet the challenge of offering culturally diverse services that reflect the communities they serve?

This course will explore these questions, enabling participants to better understand the needs and wishes of people of differing cultures. It will encourage workers to look at their own practice, as well as the organisations they work in, to ensure equality of opportunity for all.
