Course Content

 

The aims of this course are to increase awareness of the nature and prevalence of domestic violence, examine the impact of living with or through domestic violence and make the necessary connection with child abuse. The course will seek to develop the professional’s knowledge, skills and confidence in the areas of domestic violence and to give information about support and resources available.

By the end of the day participants will have:

  • become aware of the definitions and nature of domestic violence in general
  • examined domestic violence’s impact on adults and children and the links
  • understood the warning signs using the domestic violence model (the risk indication)
  • gained knowledge in how to respond appropriately and develop practical ideas and strategies for working with women and children who have experienced domestic violence
  • obtained information of the resources available locally
