Course Content

This one-day course aims to introduce participants to a wide range of self-harming behaviours focusing mainly on those leading or potentially leading to physical damage and emotional relief, such as repetitive cutting, burning and non-lethal overdosing, rather than to suicide.  Attitudes towards these behaviours will be explored as will the motivations associated with these behaviours. The difference between these and suicidal acts will be underlined. Ways of coping with clients who self harm will be discussed as will ways of helping those who self harm who want to change.

This course is designed to meet the needs of those who have, or who are likely to have, some experience of clients who self-harm, with or without professional training.
